I do not identify the tiara worn by Princess Victoria-Melita of Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha (then wife of Hereditary Grand-Duke Ernst-Ludwig of Hesse-Darmstadt). I do not even know if it is made of amethysts or of another stone.
But it is not the amethyst parure which was later worn by Princess Sophie of Greece (wife of Prince Christoph of Hesse-Cassel, and sister of Princess Cecile, who married in the Hesse-Darmstadt family) and by Princess Mafalda of Italy (wife of Prince Philipp of Hesse-Cassel, himself a brother of Prince Christoph):
- as mentioned by Ashdean, these jewels were in the two separate branches of the Hesse dinasties, so there is no reason why a Hesse-Darmstadt jewel should be seen on the head of a Hesse-Cassel lady (as long as both houses still existed). I think the Hesse-Cassel amethyst parure was among the jewels stolen in 1945 and never recovered
- and though both tiaras have similarities, the visual comparison of both tiaras confirm they are not the same (the diamonds elements on Victoria-Melita's tiara look narrower than those on Sophie's tiara):
