Thank you for the wonderful photos Arthur and Baxter. I can now see that the stones in the upper section look like diamonds. I suspect the setting is silver. I have long wondered if the setting is Indian. If so, it is possible that the stones are not faceted (as used in traditional jewllery - there is a special term for such diamonds, but my mind is not working yet). That would explain the lack of sparkle. These earrings seem to be the Duchess' favourite pair.
