Unfortunately, I do not have much information about the whereabouths of the fringe tiara (called in the French Crown Jewels' Collection the "Russian Tiara" ["Diadème Russe"], because of its kokoshnik style) after the desastrous auction in 1887. This "Russian Tiara" was sold in 1887 to Garrard, but we do not know if and to whom Garrard sold it later. In his book Les Joyaux de la Couronne de France, published in 1988, Bernard Morel mentions that in May 1962, an exhibition was held in the Louvre about "Ten centuries of French jewellery", with several of the former Crown jewels on display, but the Russian Tiara was not among the jewels loaned for the exhibition. But in the meantime, the French magazine Connaissance des Arts, in its edition of May 1962, mentioned that the Russian Tiara was in an American private collection, and published a photograph of it. I have recently ordered this magazine, I am still waiting to receive it; I will see what is in it. Unfortunately, I have no more information about the current whereabouts of this beautiful tiara. I also regret that we have no portrait or photograph of Empress Eugénie wearing this tiara. She would have certainly looked stunning!
