Queen Mary's earrings at the Devonshire ball Archived Message

Arthur's photo of Queen Mary at the Devonshire ball shows that she is wearing pendant earrings, a most unusual practice for her. I haven't found another photo of her with pendant earrings. (Please see the second photo in the link)

I recollect reading some where that QM didn't wear pendant earrings as her husband disliked them, believing they distorted ladies' ear lobes.

Perhaps that may be correct as, in Field's book, there is a photo of QM showing her wearing the Duchess of Gloucester's pendant pearl earrings (now worn by QEII) attached to a fine chain, and we know that she wore the pearl and diamond top section separately.

Roberts' phraseology on p 114 of The Queen's Diamonds indicates that the drop pearls in the diamond frame were inherited by QEII with the current diamond tops. That makes me wonder if Queen Mary might have worn the earrings as now worn by QEII.

Does anyone have any insights, information etc?

    I have 2 queries.
First, has anyone seen QM wearing pendant earrings on other occasions?
Secondly, does anyone have any details about the earrings she wore to the Devonshire ball?
