I have tried to find a date for the photo showing the Duchess of Cornwall wearing the longer 3 (??) strand pearl necklace with the marvelous pink topaz brooch/clasp for which Arthur's research has given us a purchase date and price. Unfortunately, I have not been successful. The earliest date I have found for the Duchess wearing the jewel as the centre piece of a 5 strand pearl choker is 13 November 2008 at a reception hosted by The Queen for Prince Charles' 60th birthday. A number of scenarios have occurred to me regarding this jewel. 1. The Prince of Wales may not have been the original purchaser of this jewel in the Sotheby's auction. 2. He purchased it and the earrings (which the Duchess now has) and she wore the jewels only in private until a later date. 3. A jeweller purchased the brooch and earrings and converted the brooch and late sold them. Re the two different pearl necklaces we have photos of the Duchess wearing with the brooch as a centre piece -- perhaps two separate sets of pearls can be attached to the central pink topaz jewel at will? Unless (or until) we see the centre piece used again on a longer necklace, I guess the jury will be out on this issue.
