Beth, I recall an anecdote from the official biography of Queen Mary by James Pope-Hennessey, he says that a small boy remembers seeing Queen Mary after her visit to the Pope and describes her as the 'embodiment of a Queen, all in white with ropes of pearls'. So on this occasion it seems Queen Mary was not ablaze with diamonds! - Disappointing eh! --Previous Message-- : It appears that Edward VII and later George V : and Queen Mary made visits to the Vatican. : http://blogs.fco.gov.uk/nigelbaker/2014/02/05/britain-and-the-holy-see-the-royal-connection/ : : I cannot find any photos. Does anyone have : photos? : : If Queen Mary went, I suspect her jewels : would have made it a glittering occasion. I : have no information as to whether Queen : Alexandra accompanied King Edward but, if : she did, no doubt she also wore some of her : most impressive jewels. : : :
