    What an interesting observation, Brock. Thank you.

    I can understand why Brock has made the connection with the Malta brooch of QEII. Unfortunately, my eye is not good enough to determine what brooch Queen Mary is wearing pinned to the centre of her bodice.

    One thing I have noticed in reading descriptions of Queen Mary's gowns is that she often wore emeralds with pale blue dresses, so I would not dismiss the suggestion of different coloured jewels being worn at one time, although normally HM wore matching jewels.

    Of course, it is an assumption on my part that, because the brooch at Queen Mary's throat has the shape of shamrock leaves, it contains emeralds. It may not.

    Now that we have other possibilities to consider, others may have further insights.

    PS I didn't find any description of HM's dress - colour etc or her jewels for this occasion in any of the newspapers I have access to.
