Sapphire Necklace from Her Majesty Archived Message

I have always been curious about the sapphire and diamond necklace given by Queen Mary. I have never seen a photo of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother wearing it. It just seems rather odd to not wear such a substantial piece, not to mention the fact it was gifted by her mother-in-law. Of course she may have worn it, but was never photographed, or I have just never seen such a photograph. Does anyone know anything about it? This was posted by Arthur here, a while back. --Previous Message-- : Indeed, Princess Mary of Teck and later her : daughter Mary, Princess Royal, received much : more. But we have seen time and again a kind : of ranking with brides, especially with the : younger daughters. A little strange in our : world but obviously not in a world of rank : and status. So the ninth child and fourth : daughter of an Earl, seen as a commoner : (from a royal point of view) marring the : second son (no one thought at that time he : would be the spare and future king) got : jewels befitting her rank. So no : institutions had collected money for a gift : or non rich family presented a tiara as a : sign of connection with the royal family. It : wasn`t necessary so it seems. : Her sister-in-law, Princess Alice, Duchess : of Gloucester, also got a turqouise parure : by King and Queen with other emerald jewels : and a modern diamond tiara by the groom : which can be altered with emerald. Very : lovely piece, by the way. So two tiaras we : thought til the other diamond tiara : presented by the groom appeared recently. : She did a little better deal... : The Duchess of Kent as a royal princess is : out of race I think. : : But - maybe one day we find a picture of the : wedding gifts. How knows : : --Previous Message-- : Many thanks Franck. It is very interesting : to : see a list compiled. When I think about the : amount of jewellery given to Queen Mary and : even her daughter, Princess Mary, the : Princess Royal, for their marriages QEQM : seems to have received very little. : : --Previous Message-- : : With the gift from the Hon A Harding a : diamond - should that not read the Hon : Diamond Hardinge ? : --Previous Message-- : Drar all, : : Please find below my revisited list of : jewels given as wedding gifts to the duchess : of York in 1923. I will try to do the same : with the furniture given the Duke and the : Duchess of York (but it will take me a lot : of times...) : : Thank you so much to Beth who has given me : all the information (from the time).
