Nice write up Dan. I was there too. I loved the show! I felt he energy as soon as they opened with Soul Sacrifice.
I thought the band overall did a great job. For me it was amazing to see Gregg Rolie and some original members on stage together again.
I'm looking forward to the new record. From what I heard last night there could be some instant Classic Santana songs.
One song had a resemblance to Europa with the song structure, beat and even some notes but some descending patterns as opposed to Europa's ascending patterns.
Neal Schon was smiling the entire night but he also looked a little nervous. There was one new song Karl started to count in with the sticks, Neal was supposed to start rhythm guitar but didn't know the cue, Carlos had to get his attention. And once Neal was ready to start, his guitar amp was on standby or maybe his volume peddle was turned down. Carlos gestured that Neal was smoking the weed. Nevertheless Neal recuperated and the song flowed seamlessly. Nice rhythm behind Carlos' lead.
All in all, they played a lot of new tunes and I'm ready to buy Santana IV!
