O that we could hear Rossini's "Il bravo prematuro"! But what singer now living could Opera Rara possibly choose for the role? This man is the most double-dyed villain in all of opera. When one thinks of all the crimes he has committed in his long career, Iago, Scarpia, and Mefistofele combined fade into insignificance. I really think only Chaliapin at his hammiest and snarliest could have done the role justice.
