Thank you Jeffrey. You will undoubtedly be pleased that MusicWeb's interview with Jonathan Leshnoff shall be published very shortly. Likewise, happy you enjoyed both the Piano Concerto, as well as Third and Fourth Symphonies - I would agree that they are probably representative of the best of this composer.
With warmest regards,
lee
Thank you very much Lee and Ralph for your responses and I'm delighted to hear that Jonathan Leshnoff is going to be interviewed by Musicweb - I shall look forward to that!
All good wishes to you both.
Jeffrey
Had it not been for those two reviews and your posting and I don't think would have ventured into that music, but I have spent the afternoon listening to symphonies 3 and 4 and the Piano Concerto, and must say that they are very interesting. There's a lot of what I might call atmospheric film music in them and the influences of Shostakovich and Rachmaninov are detectable, but I don't by any means mean to imply that they are superficial or derivative. The Piano Concerto in particular is, I think, a mature and thrilling work which could work its way into the repertoire. Nice to hear accessible contemporary music.
