Hurwitz often takes off on his rants. He is particularly 'ranty' about editions of Bruckner's Symphonies, about how Furtwangler was an ordinary conductor who made lo-fi recordings, who was guilty of all sorts of perfidy - none of which he substantiates - and how his 'philosophies' were the prototypes for Nazism. He also becomes quite shrill when he talks about how Czech music is every bit as good as German music, and he also takes delight in firing verbal torpedoes at most things British. Oh, and wouldn't you know it, most of the best recordings of most things are or were made by Szell, Bernstein, or Ormandy: well, he certainly has catholic tastes in that regard, he loves all three equally. It must be said, however, judging by the number of fawning comments he receives, he is a very popular Pied Piper, as many Sunday park orators have been in the past.
