I’ll also say that these ideas are not what makes this a great recording or not. Either you like the music or not. Personally, I find the interpretation at the same level as the best ones. Is it due to the lack of editing or not I don’t know. But it has a strength to it.
Robert, yes, I did read the sleeve notes (hence my reference to the vinyl release) and therefore all the self-justifying drivel about analogue vs digital recording/editing. I've done both, and in analogue days with musicians literally screaming at me to splice in just a few millimetres of tape to 'perfect' their recordings, it's just as ridiculous to suggest there's any real difference between analogue and digital editing practice as it is to apparently lay the blame primarily with the engineer! Believe it or not, the better the musician, the less there is to edit.
