Re: Mäkelä's and Rouvali's Sibelius
Yes: many years ago when he posted a rant about how dare Maazel take a US Orchestra to North Korea. He is a total US jingoist, and it comes across in his many pro-USA orchestra etc assessments. Szell and Ormandy are Gods in his pantheon. Yep, that's your prejudice, Dave, keep them to yourself. Most of the rest of the world - our conga line called Australia an exception - despises USA for its warmongering record of making war after war after war. Sorry to get 'political' but you asked about the possibility of 'correspondence' and I am relating my only contact with him. Look, in the end, he is an opinionated so-called Music Critic and like most music critics he has his own taste, experience and proclivities. I often agree with him, by the way - about Vaclav Neumann, Ancerl etc, and if he stuck to 'neutral' assessments, I'd agree with him more. I'm not saying he's a 'bad man', just saying I think his opinions are often biased - as are all of our opinions - but he does have this annoying habit of playing God, via Pontious Pilate... Previous Message Dieter, have you tried him at dhurwitz@classicstoday.com? From previous experience, he will reply. Perhaps Ralph & Co might also like to drop him a line ... Previous Message I have been jousting with the hyperinflated nobody who assumes to be the Pontius Pilate of Musi for years. He simply ignores me. Let's just say he has very specifically self inflated musical taste buds. Previous Message I think I am talking about the music because I like to alert our readers to the fact that he is destructively misleading about many of the recordings we review more helpfully - but I am ultimately indifferent to his perverse pleasure in doing so as that is his sad little pleasure. Previous Message What now appears to be the annual MWI David Hurwitz pile-on will undoubtedly be music to his ears. Having followed him for some years and on occasion personally communicated with him, he delights in nothing more than offending English sensibilities, gainsaying your musical press, and generally getting under your skin. If by any stretch of the imagination you think his stock will wane by lambasting him, I believe Oscar Wilde had something to say about that. Why not just talk about the music?
