When posting messages that contain useful information please only use smilies at the start and end of the message to make it easier to copy it to the supplementary board. It is even more helpful if you post a copy of useful information on the supp board yourself.

M&S cafe Posted by Bill D on 27/11/2024, 19:10:18 Took a shopping trip to Cribbs Causeway (Bristol) today, obligatory visit to M&S for a cuppa. Greeted with 'exciting new cafe', it had changed to the new electronic menu you order off, now we have one previous experience of this earlier in the year up in the Midlands and weren't impressed, sorted out how it worked then sat for an age waiting for our drinks/food to arrive. Cribbs experience was better to be fair. It struck me that there are plus and minus benefits to this system, once you've ordered you just go and sit down rather than standing in a huge queue (if you can find a table) it helps a lot if you know what you want, the electronic display works quite well but with the old system you can see the menu up on the wall at a glance and can study the cakes and scones etc on display, I think M&S may well find this works to their disadvantage as a lot of people must have impulse buys while waiting in the queue. Took one look at the ordering system, and didn't go into the cafe. Waited until we got back home for refreshments. Tesco's in Stevenage also have similar set up, so again we didn't use the cafe.

There is a serious aspect to this, it's another example of de-humanising contact. In the queue you could have a natter to other people, gaze at the cakes and scones, mostly ones us coeliacs can't have of course. Anyway that's progress allegedly. Same nice M&S food and drink, tea served in a pot albeit cups without saucers. Bill D.
