The Cartier tiara you mean was the beautiful one that belonged to Queen Elizabeth? It was indeed bigger than the "unknown" spikes tiara we are discussing, but the tiara itself is quite "petite". I've seen it live in a Cartier exibition and my biggest surprise was how small it looked, pictures give a bigger diamension of it. I believe it was comissioned to Cartier by Queen Elizabeth, who wore it first as a more closed bandeau low on the forehead, as it was fashionable by that time. It was made to fit her head, and Elizabeth was a short stature lady and had a small head diameter. When Pss Lilian wore it, more "tiara like", the tiara was opened to a wider diameter and looked perfect and very beautiful on her, it had some flexibility. I believe in her later years Q Elizabeth also wore it in the more open version. Its one of my favourite tiaras, not very grand nor impressive, but really beautiful and stunning piece.
--Previous Message-- : Off course she could wear 2 times the same : tiara if she want. If she liked it, why not. : : But HRH Princess Liian was known for her : beauty & her interest & love for : jewwels. During that period she acted as : Queen of Belgium and steph-mother of HM King : Boudewijn. : : I would supspect that she wore different : tiaras, to show her grandeur, glamour & : fashion-style. I never understood why shy : didn't wore her huge Cartier-tiara one : night. :
