At the catalogue "Cartier 1899 – 1949. The Journey of a style." Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. Lisbon 2007, p. 115, the belgium Cartier Tiara is noted as 5,05 cm, the Essex as 8,05 cm (p. 107). Based on the fact that the nulls are a mistake (would be very unusual to mention a 1/10 mm in that case), the Essex is three cm higher. Indeed a difference.
--Previous Message-- : Essex tiara is definitely quite large..and : quite lovely lol....It is similar in design : with my favorite Khedive tiara : : : : --Previous Message-- : You are right Tamara, it's a matter of : proportion of sizes. I also had the : impression that this was a big tiara because : I'd see Queen Elizabeth's pictures wearing : it, and it really looked like a more : substantial tiara on her. And that's why I : was so surprised with the tiara's size when : I saw it live, such a small piece, but then : again a very, very elegant and beautiful : piece. : : On the otherhand, on that same exibition was : displayed the Essex tiara, worn by Lady : Churchill at the 1953 coronation and by Pss : Margaretha of Romania as bridal tiara, and : this one was much bigger in hight and : diameter than I was expecting. The Essex is : what I call a really big tiara. : : : : : --Previous Message-- : Henri...I believed what you said about : 5.5cm...I did see the link..thanks : : I was just making comment that probably in : future discussion we have to take in account : that every wearer of the tiara is different : height and shape, which surely alters the : look of the jewel. : : : : : --Previous Message-- : The height of 5,5 cm is mentioned on the : site : of Cartier. The photo will appear when you : go the link, click on it for a description. : : : : : : : : : :
