    Alterations Archived Message

Although I´m in general hold the view that royal or nobel jewellery sometimes had to be altered to get it wearable, in this case my heart is bleeding.
As easily is to see this parure consists or better consisted of large pieces. It has been until the auction a very rare piece of parure, rare because of provenance (House of Habsburg), time (1830th), parts (a belt!!), design and - most notably - stone. The peridots are huge. Their colour...so beautiful. I´m in doubt if Archducesse Henriette was a large woman but the necklace is made to be worn with the extreme cleavage of that time. And it suited Archducesse Isabella (who was called "Busabella").

In the end it´s a question of taste, but from my point of view it doesn´t make sense to alter this necklace to make it wearble for skinny and tiny society ladies. It´s a pity....
The whole parure should have gone to a museum...

: Well spotted, Baxter and Mauriz! Thank you for
    : your sharp eyes!
    :
: The diamond frame of the earrings worn by
: Joan Rivers have more brilliants than the
: earrings auctioned off in 2012 by Christie's
    : along with the brooch.
    :
: Regarding the necklace, we can observe that
: two peridots (+ two peridot pendants) were
: removed from the necklace chain at some
    : time:
    :
: - on the pictures below, the necklace is
: made of ten peridots + seven pendants:
    :
    :
: - whereas here, the necklace (probably in
: the version worn by Joan Rivers) is made of
: only eight elements + five pendants:

: If I well remember, the tiara has been
: bought by a Japanese art collection,
: "Albion Art Collection", and lent
: occasionally for jewellery exhibitions. But
: I am a bit lost in their website, I can not
    : find the tiara again...

: Thank you, Baxter. That makes sense, since
: the brooch and the original earrings were
    : sold without the necklace.
: The diamond frames around the peridot drops
: in the neclace contain smaller/more stones
: which matches Joan River's earrings.
    :
: BTW, is anything known of the whereabouts of
    : the tiara?
    :
: Edit: The second picture in Arthur's first
: post shows that the necklace was shortened
: by two clusters with drops.

: I have speculated that the earrings worn by
: Joan Rivers were made of elements from the
    : original necklace.
