I did mention recently, and I think it was on this Board, that it seems that the first time Queen Fabiola wore the V-shaped necklace was for the Gala Dinner on the first day of the King of Saudi Arabia's State Visit to Belgium in May 1967. The picture you post is of that occasion. On the same tour King Faisal came to the UK and as we know presented Queen Elizabeth with a Harry Winston necklace. I suggest that this is Queen Fabiola's present from the Saudi King and probably made by Harry Winston too.
--Previous Message-- : In his book about the jewels of the Queens and : Princesses of Belgium ( Bijoux des Reines et : des Princesses de Belgique , 2004), : Christophe Vachaudez suggests that the : V-shaped necklace could be a gift from King : Leopold III or from King Baudouin. But : Vachaudez writes it in the interrogative : way, so he does not seem to be very sure : about that. : : I think that the modern style of the : necklace (mix of round brilliants and : baguette-cut diamonds) could match the style : of Van Cleef and Arpels, of whom King : Leopold III and King Baudouin were clients : in the 1950s/1960s. : : : : :
