Does it really matter? I say yes, of course. My interest is in real jewels, and royal into the bargain, and not in the world of current commercial products. --Previous Message-- : Increasingly we are seeing royal ladies : wearing costume jewels to accessorise their : dresses and, if the information we have : recently had about the Belgian royal ladies : is correct, many are wearing substitutes for : real jewels - and often borrowed jewels. : : While I would like to think of royal ladies : wearing grand gems, does it really matter? I : wonder if we should not sometimes : concentrate on the style rather than the : historical provenance or the actual value of : the jewels. After all, ladies such as the : Empress Eugenie wore jewels which : complemented their robes, even though most : of these were very valuable gems. : : Having said all that, I still believe that : tracing the origins of jewels or their : passage through families and when various : royal ladies wear them is fascinating and a : worthwhile activity. :
