Many thanks Lorenzo and Arthur. Fascinating information. This morning I was going to ask which jewels were then considered to be the French crown jewels, but I assume that they were those which had been made for the Duchess of Angoleume. Apart from the recorded reluctance of Queen Marie Amelie to see her husband accept the throne, I suspect that Queen Marie Amelie may have been personally disinclined to wear jewels which had been created for her cousin, the Duchess of Angoleume who, in other circumstances, would have been Queen of France. Perhaps it was a personal, political/ethical statement from a highly principled person who found herself Queen against her own personal political inclinations. I confess I am not sure of my interpretation as I have not read sufficiently about the Queen, and all that I have read is in English - not highly nuanced French language political biographies.
