If ten writers take turns hitting him with a lead pipe, then they can pretty effectively break him.
Bendis took Cage as a pet project and made him cool again. But he didn't just put him out there. He revitalized the character, and Simon could use a similar treatment. That's not to say he should get the same treatment as Cage, and I don't think he should get "a chip on his shoulder" or anything like that. That would completely change who and what he is, and there are enough "gruff, take no crap" characters in the world. What he needs is to be revitalized by finding something already in the character and coaxing it out.

: Guys I think all your ideas are fine but
: Wonder Man is not broken all he needs is a
: GOOD writer with some LOVE for him. Look at
: Luke Cage, this character was a nobody and a
: has been until Bendis got a hold of him put
: it in front of every cool story he created,
: made him "the man" who always has
: the last word or hits the last and toughest
: blow. What have we seen from Bendis, Reed,
: Millar and the horrible ambiguous Frontline
: story by Jenkins? Not too much love for our
: ionic hero. Perhaps we could say that at
: least he is not forgotten like other
: characters are.
