Boris..is there any mentioning in Alm's book about any changes in the tiara?

You are correct about lowering the height of the tiara..I didn't even catch that

It is surely an interesting topic but unless we have, as you said, some experts look at it closely, we may never know...but for me usually pictures speak louder than any experts LOL..

: This particular close up photo of the cameo
: tiara is actually the only one which shows
: this rather weird, thick thread.
: All the pictures of Queen Silvia wearing it,
: as well as the ones from the wedding of
: Crown Princess Victoria, show a thin and
: much less visible gold wire.
: Therefore, a gold wire was used before as
: well as after this photo was taken - that's
: why I could never figure out the appearance
: of the tiara as photographed in this pic.
    :
: Regarding the main topic of Tamara's post:
: Of course the depiction of jewelry in
: paintings is always something of a hassle as
: we won't ever have certain proof that it's
    : truly authentic.
: But if you look at all the other details in
: the tiara including the cameo motifs being
: so painstakingly exact, I'd say the question
: whether the tiara was altered in the way
: suspected by Tamara is justified.
    :
: If so, then the pairs of leaves now in gold
: were indeed set with pearls at that point,
: and I'd say that the height of the whole
: tiara was lowered by changing the bottom,
: which would account for the changes in the
    : motifs in that spot...
: There's no way of proving the idea unless an
: expert would examine the tiara itself, but
: it remains an interesting theory.

: Tamara - this is not what you have asked
: but, the closeup of the tiara clearly shows
: the thread running around the base, which we
: have discussed in the past.
: I wonder if you have a good closeup from
: Victoria's wedding where we can see if the
    : thread has now gone.

: The design of the tiara is extremely
    : detailed.
: It seems unlikely to me that:
: - the Queen posed for the painter until he
    : got every detail right
: - the painter had separate access to the
: tiara in order to depict the tiara precisely
    : as it is
: So I'd say: artistic liberty but on
    : practical grounds.

    : Curious to hear what
    : other think
    :
    :
: Is it possible that the perceived changes
: are little more than artistic liberty?
    :
: It could have very well beeen modified,
: though artists have been known to exaggerate
: the imagery of jewellery to evoke a sense of
    : heightened granduer.
    :
: I am by no means as keen an eye for such
: things as you Tamara, so you may very well
    : be spot on.
