but it doesn't make sense why the artist would change such obvious elements around the palmette (in between cameos)if in fact they were gold at that time? and he decided to paint pearls within these elements...it takes more time an effort to paint each pearl than to just do gold element as we see on Cameo tiara today... I understand when artist exaggerates actual size of the stones or tiara itself, which we have seen on numerous paintings posted on this board, but never I have seen such difference in "actual" detail presentation. I am absolutely sure that there were changes made to this tiara...changes that we might learn someday --Previous Message-- : The 'outer wings' of pearls between the cameos : (in the painting) are in fact the gold leafs : in the modern photo (done a bit clumsy (or : demanded to do so) in the painting. : : You can see there are 5 'arms' in the : palettes (both in the painting and modern : photo) and then the gold wings (which look : like pearl wings in painting). : : These wings/leafs are not done correctly : according to moderne photo standard. : : The same goes for the motifs in the base : (under the cameos) - but if you look : carefully in the pearl pattern, you can see : that they are in fact clumsy reproductions : of what you can see in the modern photo. : : The number of 'arms' in the 'palmette' shape : (7 arms) is the same as in the modern photo. : : So my guess is that no alternations have : been made, just that there details were a : bit clumsy painted by the painter... : :o) : : :
