I quite agree Boffer. Thank you for your response. It can only be by direct access to the inventories and other personal records that such similar pieces can be traced. I have the same problems with pearl necklaces - can rarely tell one from t'other in the pics. --Previous Message-- : I don't believe that it is possible to truly : identify which collet necklace this is, : without looking at the various jewellery : inventories and tracking which diamonds : rivieres were given to Princess Margaret at : different times. : : What we do know is that Queen Mary had 8 : diamond collet necklaces at the time of her : death in 1953; of which he left one, 'Queen : Mary's Lady Mount Stephen Necklace' to : Princess Margaret (which was subsequently : sold at auction). : : As for Princess Margaret's second collet : necklace, now worn by Lady Sarah. This could : well have been another bequest from Queen : Mary, or perhaps a bequest from George VI, : or a gift at some point from Queen : Elizabeth, the Queen Mother; or indeed a : gift from The Queen. : : There seem to be so many diamond rivieres : constantly being altered and changing hands : in the Windsor collection, is it impossible : to know which is which without carefully : pouring over the countless inventories in : the Royal Archives. :
