Lady Catherine Brandon small flowers tiara?- to Claes Archived Message

Thank you so much Claes! This is the first precise reference I've read on what turquoise jewels were gifted to Pss Sophie by her family: a tiara, a necklace and two bracelets.

I know no mention to a turquoise tiara on Queen Frederika, Queen Helen, Pss Irene, and Pss Françoise had the turquoise set from Queen Olga. But then I remembered a small flower tiara that Pss Catherine, Lady Brandon, Sophie's youngest daughter, wore on King Paul's 60th anniversary celebrations. There is a photo of all the greek royal ladies fully bejeweled taken at the stairs of Athens royal palace, but I cannot acess my files now.

It is an unknown origin tiara (at least to me...) and I never saw pictures of any other royal lady wearing it.
The tiara had a very simple design, it had small loops on the base and three flowers, each with 5 petals, on the front, the center flower was bigger. It seemed like pearls (or could be turquoises?) in the center of the flowers. Between the flowers, in the loops, there seemed to be a pearl (turquoises?).

Claes you say the article gives a detailed description of the jewels, can you please check if it matches the description of the tiara above?
I would appreciate any information on it.

    Thank you very much

: I have a copy from an article in a swedish
: newspaper which lists jewels given till
: Princess Sophie of Prussia upon her wedding
: to the Crown Prince of Greece in 1889.
    :
: According the article Princess Sophie was
: given a turquoise tiara from her brother the
: German emperor, a necklace and bracelet of
: turquoises from her mother the Dowager
: Empress of Germany, and a bracelet of
: turquoises from her brother-in-law the
    : hereditary prince of Sachsen-Meiningen.
    :
: The article gives a very detailed
: description and background of the jewels. No
    : photo just text.
    :
: Myself I have no idea what happened to these
: jewels after the death of Queen Sophie of
    : Greece.

: Queen Anne Marie also has some turquoise
: jewels, at least one pair of earrings, some
: small brooches, rings and at least one
: bracelet. She wore those at a Luxembourg
: royal wedding in the early 1980's and at her
: youngest child Ps Philipos christening.
: I never saw her wear any turquoise necklace
: so I don't know if the jewels make a more
: complete set, nor if they are part of the
: greek turquoise ones from Queen Sophie.
: Another possibility is that Queen Anne
: Marie's turquoises came from her swedish or
    : danish inheritance...

: I just would like to point out something
    : about
: Queen Anne-Marie's personal jewels: do you
: realize, apart from the most impressive
: complete sets of emeralds & diam. and
: rubies & diamonds, how many
    : demi-parures, brooches, bracelets, pendants
: with diamonds, emeralds, rubies, pearls,
: aquamarines, blue and yellow sapphires
    : brooches, etc.

: Yes, Bob that's the turquoise set I was
: refering to as the only one I knew worn by a
: greek royal lady, but I am not sure it is
    : the mistery one.
    :
: Pss Françoise was Queen Sophie's
: sister-in-law, so she would not inherit it
: from her, the only possibility was that
: Prince Christopher or his wife would have
: bough it from the Queen or her descent.
    :
: Besides I think those turquoises came from
: Queen Olga, althought I am not sure where I
    : read it...
: I remember something like Queen Olga
: spliting her jewelry by gems to leave to her
: children, I think Cristopher got the
    : turquoises...

: The turquoise parure may be the one worn by
: Princess Francoise, wife of Prince
: Christopher. There is a frequently seen
: photo of Princess Francoise wearing a very
    : complete turquoise parure.
