Thank you very much Claes for sharing it with us, it's the first time I read such description. It looks like it was an impressive tiara, but nothing I would remember seing on any greek royal lady's head, nor the Queens descend... and sadly no match to Pss Catherine mistery tiara that I was hopping would gives a clue. So, two misteries remain: what happened to the turquoise parure of Queen Sophie, and the provenance of Pss Catherine small flower tiara... Thanks again for the valuable info and sources. --Previous Message-- : According the swedish newspaper from 1889 : translated to english: : : “The diadem is a gift from the Emperor. It : is an excellent work and the artwork : gracefully found. Three rows turquoises, the : one above the other, raising ever larger and : larger, be surrounded of the most : magnificent arabesques in diamonds. The : biggest turquoises of pear shape forming : like a coronet, framed by big diamonds. : Toward both ends of the diadem it becomes : smaller” : : : --Previous Message-- : Yes! Thank you Carlo and Martina, that's the : tiara I was talking about. A complete : mistery to me. : Is it just my eyes or cold there be perhaps : pearls or turquoises in the center and : between the base of the flowers? I will wait : Claes response on the description of Queen : Sophie's turquoise tiara... It would be : wonderful to find a match between Pss : Catherine tiara and her mother's : "unknown" turquoise set. : : As to Pss Irene's tiara on this event I : always thought it was indeed one of the : riviéres worn as tiara. If we look at the : pictures of Queen Frederika wearing them, : the diamonds seem quite large. Placed on a : proper frame they would look similar to : Queen Juliana's diamond rosecut bandeau. : Like the idea . But we don't know the : wereabouts of those amazing riviéres of : Queen Frederika nowadays. : : : : : --Previous Message-- : To Cristina : Is this the tiara you mean? BTW, at this : same evening in Athens, Princess Irene of : Greece (King Constantine II's sister) wore : what I think it is a diamond collets : necklace as a bandeau (head ornament). : Unfortunately I do not have any close-up of : this. Maybe one of those diamonds rivières : we spoke about in the posts below? : : Here is a side photo with Princess Catherine : and tiara on the bottom right of picture: : : Group photo: : : Here is a close-up posted by Martina, as she : says not the best but the only available : (thanks Martina): : : : : : :
