The golden mug is for water and specially made for The Prince Consort - The Queen has one too in front of her in another design but still made by a modern gold smith - my guess would be Torben Hardenberg. More interesting is that in front of The Prince Consort (hidden in the picture by the flowers) is a silver bowl with fresh herbs from the royal gardens, as The Prince Consort likes to spice up his food at the table. --Previous Message-- : That is what I thought too because the Danes : do have such stunning tableware indeed. Not : that the Danes should be ashamed because the : Finnish president was received with : beautifully laid out tables, the difference : with other Danish tablesettings just took my : attention. : : : : Any idea about Henrik's golden mug? : : : : --Previous Message-- : There are many table sets in the DRF. The : most : impressive is a huge set of French rococo : silver from the mid 18. Cent. which is often : used. Then there is a huge bronze set with : figures after Thorwaldsen's statues and of : course Flora Danica (which is no longer used : - the vases in Marianne's picture are not : Flora Danica). I think QMII likes to change : the table setting from time. : : --Previous Message-- : Yes, there are certainly nice items, that : silver bell is funny. The couverts however : look relatively sober to me, four relatively : simple glasses, some cutlery. I missed the : middlepieces (often a long extended : plateau), the big ornamental chandeliers, a : golden or silver lion, galleon, or another : impressive sculpture, etc. : : Of course it can be a personal wish of the : Queen. For example the long table at Windsor : is só full, it is a wonder people can still : see each other.... : : Question: why is the Prince Consort the only : one with a golden mug? : : : : --Previous Message-- : Im not certain but i think those porcelain : flowervases are from the Flora Danica range : and could very well be antique, making them : just as expensive as the gilded table wear : of some of the other Royal houses. The table : silver also looks very impressive and i : remember there have been exhibitions with : 18th century Royal silver from the Royal : collections. So it may look simpler but i : very much doubt it is any simpler or cheaper : than the lay out for a state banquet at any : other European court. Have you seen the : gilded/gold boxes and ashtrays? : : --Previous Message-- : Is this a message to all Royal Houses: : please : keep those magnificent tablepieces, so : carefully maintained for centuries and : inherited from generation on generation, in : the safes and say it with sweetpeas? : : I think a State Banquet, the lay out of the : table is as essential as the uniforms of the : footmen and the jewels and robes of the : ladies. : : : : : : --Previous Message-- : I find the use of sweet peas refreshing. : : : : : : : : : : : : : : :
