I believe, with some exceptions, that many Portuguese nobles suffered rough times financially(like Portugal self) since the establishment of the republic and the disbanding of the Nobility as well prohibition on the use of titles. I think many nobles lost their sources of income, also the loss of colonies was a hard hit. I have no idea how many nobles there are and if they are able to purchase an expensive gift. Note that in other countries with an active nobility, gifts to royal brides are rare as well. The only example I know is Mathilde d'Udekem d'Acoz.
