Thats a good question Maria-Olivia. Queen Amélia died in 1951 and Dona Maria Francisca in 1968, but it seems the late Queen left her portuguese belongings to her godchild the presente Duke. In that time gap there were several major tiara events, like for instance the belgian royal wedding, the greek royal weddings but the only tiara I've seen Dona Maria Francisca wear was her Diamond bandeau (this jewel will certainly be discussed in more detail here in next threads. The present Duchess of Braganza also never wore the Dom Luís diadem abroad, altough she atended several major tiara events (danish royal wedding, monaco royal wedding, swedish festivities). Note: I have edited and corrected the message. Of course it was not Dom Duarte Nuno who inherited from Queen Amélia, but his son, who was her godson. I apologize...that's what one gets for trying to write something that makes some sense after a long day and short sleep... --Previous Message-- : Why did Dona Maria Francesca never wore the : tiara the actual Duchess wore on her wedding : day ? : : --Previous Message-- : Jorge I was eagerly waiting for you to start : another Braganza jewels thread ! : : The brazilian aquamarine set is really : beutiful and one of the most imposing : jewelry sets the Duchess has at her : disposal. Although its design is not as : elaborate, these aquamarines could rival the : similar ones in Luxembourg and UK. As far as : I know it was never worn abroad. A pitty I : think, because just imagine how wonderfully : it would look with the Dom Luís diadem or : even the choker worn as tiara (we will talk : about that one soon also ). : I have no information on if the earrings and : the ring were part of the gift or a latter : aquisition/gift, most likely they were, : althought only the necklace is mentioned. : No idea what the other gifts were...we can : only imagine...perhaps a brooch? Or some : bracelet? : : From my archives, here's the first time I : saw Dona Isabel wearing the complete set : (necklace, earrings and ring), from Caras : magazine. It was on a gala event of the : Prémio Infante Dom Henrique in 1998 with : Prince Edward of UK. This award is a branch : of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards. Sadly the : neckline of the jacket and also its patterns : hide the necklace a bit I think, but still : this is the best close-up of it I could : find. : Apart from the more recent outing of the set : in the Swedish visit in 2008 I think this : 1998 event was the only previous time the : Duchess wore it (to my knowledge) : : : : More recently (I have no indication of a : date but I think this is fairly recent) Dona : Isabel wore the aquamarine earrings again, : and this time we can see them better! Those : aquamarines are just amazing! : : : They were a favourite of the late Duchess. : Scanned and enlarged from an old Point de : Vue, Dona Maria Francisca is wearing the : aquamarines on the prewedding event of King : Baudoiun and Doña Fabíola de Mora y Aragón : in 1960 : : : : : : :
