Ohh so sorry Cynthia, I now see you were refering to the wedding of Dona Maria Francisca and why she not wore the present duchess bridal tiara, I apologize if I made some confusion here. At that time Queen Amélia was still alive, and of course in possesion of the Dom Luís diadem... I don't think Queen Amélia attended the wedding in Brazil, but I remember reading that the couple payed her a visit sometime after. From Queen Amélia's portuguese wedding gifts this is the only one we know to exist still. However there is yet another heirloom from Queen Amélia in the present Duchess's collection, but not any of the wedding gifts mentioned. What I've written in the previous post is that the present Duke himself never (to my knowledge) mentioned in any interview any info about the jewels, only that his godmother the late queen left him several buildings. --Previous Message-- : I'm thinking of the first thread we had on the : glorious subject of the Portuguese jewels: : : "The Queen died in 1951 and her will : stated that her Portuguese jewels should go : to the present Duke of Braganza that was her : Godson. But at that time only the tiara : remained from Queen Amelia wedding presents : and, as far as I know, there is no : information from what happened to the other : jewels." : : : http://members2.boardhost.com/royal-jewels/msg/1391108108.html : : If I read it wrong, I apologize. This is : why I thought the previous duchess of : Braganza would not have worn this tiara at : her wedding: it didn't belong to her : husband, and the wedding took place outside : Europe. Was Queen Amelie even present at : this event? : : Though I do wander off-topic, sorry! :
