When Martijn Akkerman spoke about two ears-of-wheat being removed in the 1950's to create diamond broches for two Hofdames, that indicates insider information to me. Or he is totally mixing things up? On the picture below Queen Wilhelmina wore the diamond ears-of-wheat, sewn on a sort of headgear with veil. It is difficult to count how many ears-of-wheat there are. The picture en face seems to suggest 8, the picture partly en profil seems to suggest more than 8 because there are also ears-of-wheat above the Queen's ears.
