Even though I can't speak for the Duchess, I've wondered if HRH has avoided the bling and sparkles not only because she may not be a big fan of bling, but may feel that she's a newcomer to the Royal Family and feels she may be looked at as inappropriate in wearing the spectacular Royal jewels or as overstepping her place. Catherine may be fearful or being accused of "overdoing it." Just an opinion to throw out.

    : I agree...with all....
    :
: With the passage of time, tastes and styles
: change. And as Nellie put it, I do think
: we've seen the future style of the Windsors.
: Not just in clothing and jewels, but in
: terms of public relations and public
: engagement. I'm all for it, 100%. Except
: that part of me that we all have in common -
: the part that loves those beautiful stones,
: and craves to see them. I'm sure we have
: some surprises and mysteries in store for us
: yet, but I do believe over time we'll see
: these beautiful things more in museums and
: books than on actual people.
    :
: Of course, this is all just my opinion.

: I had half expected to see a few long
: dresses last night but that was clearly not
    : the dress code.
: Everything about their visit has been
: understated, tending to the everyday ways
: and styles of the people they were meeting,
: whom I am sure were from fields of endeavour
    : that interested the couple.
: There was no event to pander to the egos of
: "names" who might need to be seen
    : in the right company.
: I think we have seen the Cambridge style.

: There is only one reason and one reason only
: for wearing little jewelery for a woman:
    : TASTE.
: It is only a matter of taste.
: If a woman (however poor or rich) likes to
: wear broches, bracelets, earrings, rings SHE
    : WILL !
: That Kate doesn't like wearing (much)
    : jewelery is obvious.
: Just as it is clear that the present
: sovereign-princess of Monaco does not like
    : to wear jewels.
    :
: Lets be honoust: do you know of any woman in
: your social circle that loves jewelery but
: never wears jewels because she cannot afford
    : it?
: Hahaha still have to meet the first woman
    : like that.
    :
: I always find it nice to see the big pieces
    : come out.
: The pieces with a lot of tradition.
: That's why I am happy with the likes of
: Máxima and Mary, who "Dare to
    : Wear".
: But first there must be a love for jewels.

: I think the "austerity" excuse is
: going to have to last a very long time,
: decades, if that's the reasoning.
