Nellie, because of your extensive knowledge of British Royal jewels, I would value your opinion regarding the claim by Garrard's to have set the diamonds in HM QEII's South African 21st birthday necklace gift. Is there anything in the wording of the source you cited above which might suggest that the firm did the original setting? Or was their involvement limited to including the 6 carat De Beers diamond and then later making the necklace into a shorter version and a bracelet? I could understand that, although the necklace was a present from the people of South Africa, the setting was done in the UK. Or is the phraseology too broad for any definite conclusion to be drawn. What is your opinion?
