I always understood that the inheritance from QEQM to QEII was under terms arranged with the government during the reign of George VI.

I don't recall ever having read of any inheritance arrangements made with the government during the current reign. It would be good to think a similar arrangement applies, to avoid any need to sell any part of the monarch's estate to meet death duties and similar taxes.

: Apparently the Queen Mothers estate was left
: directly to the Queen so that it did not
: incur death duties. Had she left items to
: Charles he would have had to pay tax on
: them. Sovereign to Sovereign inheritance is
: exempt from death duties. Hence I would
: expect that HM will leave her entire estate
: to Charles with private instruction on items
: she wishes Andrew, Edward, Anne & their
: families to have. Either that or items will
: be given as gifts while HM is alive.

: Publicly we were informed that Queen

: Who inherited the Mrs Grevels jewels :

: for the tiara but for the necklace and

: This is such an interesting question! We
    : know
: from Mrs Greville's will that she left her
: jewels to Queen Elizabeth with her loving
: thoughts! I wish we had a list of those
    : jewels!

: Ashdean's comment about an emerald tiara
: belonging to Mrs Greville -- possibly
: bequeathed to Queen Elizabeth (the Queen
: Mother) has prompted my query.
: How have people been able to compile lists
: of the jewels which were bequeathed to QEQM?
: Roberts in the Queen's Diamonds has provided
: authoritative evidence for some - but what
: evidence is there about other jewels in the
    : bequest?
: I have not read Vincent Meylan's books so I
: apologise to you, Vincent, if you have
    : already written about this.
