So many things to think about Archived Message

Thank you Bryce, I am intrigued by the jewels worn during the 2003 trip to Nigeria as they seem so different from HM's "normal" style of jewels, except for her usual daytime pearl necklace and earrings. There are so many possibilities. Yet, I keep thinking back to the theory of Ockham's razor.
If only the royal press people had supplied information at the time, or if the Royal Collection did later.
Yet, that would have denied us the interest of trying to determine where these jewels originated and why HM was wearing them.

: I am well aware that HM is very considerate
: when it comes to wearing her gifts at the
    : appropriate occassion.
    :
: What I find so intriguing is the fact that
: on the Nigerian trip she had no
    : "regular" jewels.
    :
: HM could come to Canada, for example, (and I
: am sure a number of other countries) and
: only wear gifted jewelery with a
    : "Canadian" theme quite easily.
    :
: But she never has - nor do I expect she ever
    : will.
: That she would do so at this particular
: CHOGM (and not at any other) I just find
    : mysterious.
    :
: I mean - ultimately - we will probably never
: know, but you have to give consideration to
: the possibility of various scenerio.
    :
: The detective work of this board's members
: has uncovered and solved many a mystery....
: I still have hope that we may find out
: something further about the Nigerian jewels.
    :
    : Cheers!

: The enamel tulip was gift of Turkey tulips
    : originate in Turkey.

: I would more go with the gift idea.
: Maybe many (all) of these items were gifts
: from either people/groups in Nigeria or
: attending the meeting. So HM honoured the
: donors by wearing them while in their
: presence/country. We have seen her do that
: before. For example during her trip to
: Baltic states in 2006 we saw her wear a
: couple of brooches that we have never seen
: before or since. This one was believed to
: have been one of Princess Margaret's.

    :
: Also a delightful enamelled 'tulip' brooch
    : was a tour gift but I can't find a picture
: of it at the moment. (or maybe it was 2008
    : to Slovenia)

: While I agree that the suggested absence of
: The Queens usual jewelery is very unusual -
: it is not totally out of the realms of
: possibility. Even with the best planning,
    : things can go wrong.
    :
: I did a quick search (emphasis on quick). I
: did not see a tiara worn in Nigeria for the
: state banquet or the CHOGM banquet (but
: there was in Australia in 2002 and Malta in
: 2005) and I could not find a single picture
: of HM in any of her "usual"
: brooches etc (except her 3 strand pearls).
    :
: I find this just as unusual in that HM has
: never before or since made a whole trip with
: never seen jewelery as was the case in
    : Nigeria.
    :
    : The mystery continues...
    :
    : Cheers!

: It's not one of the flame lily brooches, but
    : I
: think your explanation is plausible, Beth.
: Seemingly, the Queen decided on that trip to
: wear unseen brooches, maybe with
    : Commonwealth or African connections.
