Last 11th September, the Danish royal family — except for Crown Prince Frederik, who was attending the Invictus Games in London — hosted a gala dinner at Fredensborg Palace, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Danish Red Cross.
The International Red Cross Movement was officially founded in 1919, but the movement’s founder, Henry Dunant, already came up with the idea in 1859. The first actions taken by the movement on Danish ground were at the Battle of Dybbol in 1864.
Ahead of the gala dinner, which was held in the Palace’s orangery, Queen Margrethe, Prince Consort Henrik, Crown Princess Mary, Prince Joachim and Princess Marie welcomed the guests at the entrance of the palace's gardens.
Jewellerywise, the most interesting jewel was the pair of large gold earrings in Indian (or Oriental) style worn by Crown Princess Mary. Very impressive! Has someone already seen these earrings?
