Wow! What a surprise to see this kind of earrings on CP Mary. To me it is indeed a pair of the traditional Portuguese earrings «Brincos a Rainha» (Queen style earrings). As I said in a previous thread, it is a very traditional piece whose history goes back to the XVIII century. In my opinion the earrings are made of gold and were one of the wedding presents from the Portuguese Royal Family (we know that the Dukes value a lot the Portuguese national traditions). Cristina, sorry but I have to make a small correction to what you said: traditionally, portuguese gold jewels (and coins) are made with gold of 19.2 carats (80% pure gold), not with gold of 24 carats. Above us (the Portuguese People) I think that only India with 22 carats gold (91.6% pure gold). Pure gold is, allegedly, extremely difficult to work with. The earrings of CP seem huge, so I would guess that they could cost easily over 2500 euros or even more than 3000 euros. Besides the link provided by Cristina you can also see more Portuguese gold jewels here. In that page it is possible to see both traditional pieces and modern interpretation of traditional pieces. Hope you all enjoy.
