This is a very interesting thread. I am wondering whether the diamond portions of the London sautoir could be detached and worn separately. It would indeed be very interesting to see the sautoir worn by the Duchess of Cambridge, perhaps with the long gown she wore to the film about Nelson Mandela. To go a bit O/T, I also think that the picture of the Duchess of York walking with the Duke at the christening may have inspired the choice of Helena Bonham Carter to play her in the film The King's Speech. I had never thought there was much resemblance, but that picture has a certain graceful spriteliness that makes me think of the way the actress played Elizabeth. I think I can see why the QM never wore some of her gift jewels, but it is certainly interesting when something like the amethyst necklace turns up, slightly awkward as it is.
