What an interesting observation, Baxter. Thank you. I don't think anyone else has ever mentioned this aspect before. I had never noticed QEQM's lack of earrings during her early married life, or prior to her marriage. For me, the most intriguing question would be why she started to wear earrings just before she became Queen. There are a number of possibilities - such as fashion; personal style; having been given significant earrings by her husband etc. I hope others can provide us with some ideas.

As : mentioned there were no earrings as part of : the suite. In fact, with the exception of : the turquoise parure from the king, there : didn't seem to be any earrings given as : wedding gifts. I think this could be due to : the fact that Lady Elizabeth's ears were not : pierced. Although her hairstyle usually : completely covered her ears, in all the : photos in her younger days and into the : early years of her marriage I have never : seen the Queen Mother wearing earrings. : : Here most of the turquoise parure was worn : but the earrings were not. : : : The Duchess of York (future Queen Mother) : receiving delegates at a gathering of : legislators from the overseas British : Empire.
