These particular pearls appear to be the necklaces worn by the then Duchess of York almost exclusively throughout the 1920's and 1930's until 1936 when she gained access to the Crown Pearls. Looking at the photographs following her husband's accession to the throne, she appears to then wear the Hanoverian pearls and the Queens Caroline and Anne Necklaces. Once the Greville inheritance was on the scene she wore those pearls and then the crown pearls passed to her daughter Elizabeth on her marriage.
--Previous Message-- : I wondered about the clasp in that photo : Arthur. It is very frustrating that Getty : chose to put their watermark in that : particular spot. : : On reflection, I suspect that it is a : different clasp. : : Your suggestion has merit. How I would like : to see a photo free of that watermark. : : I don't think that QEII commenced wearing : that brooch until after QEQM's death, so she : may have inherited it from her mother. : : --Previous Message-- : On the picture provided by Beth1 (4th link, : picture below), I wonder if the clasp (which : looks definitely different from the ruby : clasp of the 'Indian pearls' or the double : clasp worn by the Queen Mother in the 1930s) : could be the pink topaz brooch occasionally : worn by Queen Elizabeth II: : : : Direct link to Getty Pictures: : : http://www.gettyimages.com.au/detail/news-photo/elizabeth-duchess-of-york-later-the-queen-mother-meets-news-photo/3134590 : (picture number: 3134590) : : : : (Source: 'From Her Majesty's Jewel Vault' : website) : : I am not totally sure, though: the design : looks very similar, but I am not sure the : number of diamonds in the diamond surround : is the same. : : : : :
