Re: your statement: "It would be interesting to look back at how many of these pieces Diana wore subsequent to her divorce."

It does not prove how many pieces of jewels Princess Diana wore before her divorce were the ones she got to wear after her divorce because she only had ONE YEAR to wear anything of value before she unexpectedly died. So because of that, we will not know which jewel piece (or how many she had in total, for that matter) she wore before her divorce actually ended up in her personal possession after her divorce.

All the jewels Princess Diana had before her marriage obviously belonged to her, period! These obviously would go to her sons after her death.

As for the jewels she had received both as Prince Charles' wife (i.e., the Queen Mother's diamond and sapphire brooch or especially Charles' personal gifts to Diana) and in her official role as Princess of Wales (i.e., the Saudi Arabian gifts), that's another matter entirely. She appeared to have some of those in her possession after her divorce, but probably (whatever royal jewels she had) had been returned to the Queen or went to her sons (one of whom will be the future King) shortly after her death.

Any other jewel piece she either got from her friends or other people or she herself bought between her divorce and her death were her property, therefore they would go to her sons after her death.

: The ownership of jewellery that Diana received
: as wedding presents is not cut & dried
: as them being her personal property. If
: given by non family then they were gifts to
: the Princess of Wales not Diana Spencer. Had
: she been marrying Joe Bloggs then these
: people would not have presented gifts. I
: would say that they will be held in trust
: for William and Harry but the bulk will, in
: due course, become part of the jewels to be
: worn by future Princesses of Wales.
: It would be interesting to look back at how
: many of these pieces Diana wore subsequent
    : to her divorce.

: I think it is purely far-fetched to
    : speculate
: which tiara will eventually go to whom. We
    : actually strictly don't know.
    :
: The status of the jewels worn by junior
: members of the Royal family (occasional loan
: / permanent loan / gift in full property) is
: not always clear. The Cambridge Lover's Knot
: Tiara was worn by Diana, but it seems to
: have returned after her death to the Royal
: Collection, so Diana might not have owned
    : it.
    :
: Personally, I hope that the Cambridge
: Lover's Knot Tiara (as well as other
: historic jewels having belonged to previous
: Queens) will remain in the Royal Collection,
: i.e. in the possession of the reigning
: King/Queen - which does not exclude them to
: be loaned to junior princesses of the Royal
    : family.
    :
: Otherwise these jewels would eventually,
: after a few decades, not be seen anymore
: (because their owners will be too far from
: the "core" of the Royal family and
: will not take part to royal tiara-events),
: and will end up after two or three
: generations in an auction sale - as it was
: the case for most of the royal jewels given
: to Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood, or
: to Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent. I do
: not wish this fate to the lovely Cambridge
    : Lover's Knot Tiara!
    :
: So I hope that all the jewels coming from
: Queen Mary, Queen(-Mother) Elizabeth or
: Queen Elizabeth II will remain in the Royal
: Collection, because of their historic and
: artistic value, and that Prince Harry's wife
: or Princess Charlotte will inherit (or be
: given) only jewels which had belonged in
: full property to Diana (e.g. her Saudi suite
: of sapphires and diamonds) or jewels
: specifically acquired for them (similarly,
: for instance, to the diamond tiara newly
: acquired by the Queen and presented as a
: wedding gift to Sarah, Duchess of York).
