Hi,
After the recent sighting of this lovely tiara on the Duchess of Cambridge's head, I wonder about its way from Princess Margaret to Queen Elizabeth...
It's normaly accepted that this tiara belonged to Princess Margaret for years... (the earliest date I found was 1958 (from a welcome home dinner after a Carribean Tour)
I also read that the last time it was worn, was by Serena Linley for her wedding in 1993. It's not true, Princess Margaret wore probably it for the last time on the Occasion of the Opening of Parliament in 1995.
So, the Princess wore it between 1958 and 1995 several time but not as much as the Halo tiara or the Poltimore tiara.
We always take for sure that this tiara did belong to the Princess. But do We have any proof (record or testimony) it realy was a gift to her ?
Some other possibilities:
1-The tiara may have just been lent to Princess Margaret from her mother
If so, it could have been return back to the Queen Mother in 2002, at Princess Margaret death and then passed to the actual Queen after the Queen mother's death hardly a month later after her daughter.
So, this tiara may not have been in the Linley's inheritance after their mother death. It can explain why it was not put on auction nor been worn by Lady Sarah or Viscountess Linley.
2-This tiara could have belonged to Princess Margaret and in her will, she gave it to her sister the Queen ? (I found this info on a forum somewhere)
3-This tiara may have belonged to Margaret and at her death, been inherited by her children. The Queen could have bought it directly from them and so, it was not included in the auction of the Princess' jewelry.
