I listened to this cd again, for the fourth time. This time loud with my ear buds.And... it's not a bad record. It isn't great but it definitely isn't bad. As I mentioned before, the best possible Isley Brothers/Santana collaboration should have happened in 1977, not 2017. Carlos was at the height of his powers and Ronnie Isley's voice was at its best back then.
There's a lot of good guitar playing on the cd. Carlos isn't recycling the same ol' licks like he has tended to do on most of his recent albums. I wish Ernie was featured more. Heck, I wish there was a Carlos and Ernie bonus track of something like Maggot Brain where they both could stretch out.
I know Carlos lived in teh San Francisco area for years and he's a fan of the NBA champions Golden State Warriors but they could have found a more appropriate, sports related song to include that basketball rap instead of Higher Ground.
I finally figured out the thing that was bugging me about God Bless The Child. This version seems like an homage to Curtis Mayfield's People Get Ready and Carlos' initial solo sounds like a reference to the Rod Stewart/Jeff Beck version.
