Don't love it, don't hate it. It's a different vocal timbre, even from five years ago and 'The Christmas Song'. There are flashes of the old Bassey sound, but I feel a lack of 'spark'. Is it me or has her natural vibrato been compressed? The big band numbers are not great; Shirley could never swing and by her own admission isn't a jazz singer. It's perhaps best when she isn't pushing too hard: the title track, Always on My Mind and I Don't Know What Love Is are nice. Why choose to do the Queen number again I wonder? ...
