Just listening to Jeremy Vine, and noticed his comment that he said (something along the lines of) 'panto won't go ahead, or is very unlikely this year, due to theatre's concerns and uncertainties' obviously referring to costs, insurance and the difficulty in asking contracts to be signed in these times etc etc. I know that it is arguably too early to tell, I know it's not until December, and even Jeremy Vine is saying he's aware no official announcement has been made - but he makes a good point, that how on earth can contracts be being signed etc/ plans going ahead as normal that would have usually started way before now, knowing there not even be an audience due to social distancing/ general anxieties that will inevitably linger.

The point I'm making with all this, and I'm open to hearing other points' of view, I really think producers need to make some kind of statement with where they stand at the moment - because as good as it is to say it's not until December, we all know plans from designers, casting and even audience members booking tickets, start far earlier which will directly affect whether they go ahead - so surely the people high up have some idea. Theaters are still taking bookings, and it would help to know whether we should book or not and even just to boost spirits or hear where things may stand, even it is in potential terms or what producers feel the most likely outcome will be. No one can expect guarantees, but guides would be good. This affects not just audience memebers, but potential ensemble cast, technicians etc who may rely on panto for income.
