For me, there is NEVER a good reason to include applause on a recording. If I want to jump up, shout, stamp my feet, clap my hands etcetera after a performance, at home, I will do so. But PLEASE, don't force me to witness other people's appreciation and/or histrionics. Whenever remotely possible, I plead for the removal of audience noise from any recording, most notably at the end. It never fails to hugely irritate me if it's there, especially when some antisocial blockhead finds it necessary to shout something like "BRAVO!!!" before the sounds of the music have well and truly faded away. I really HATE those people. But otherwise, I'm quite a peaceful person. :-)
Regards, Jaap.
