Do feel free to add your own thoughts where you do not agree ! Ralph Moore - the King of Conspectuses - for example, thinks I don't rate the Jurowski or Hengelbrock highly enough and that I have missed out one his favourites, Urbanek and the Prague Festival Orchestra on Laserlight, entirely ! We are all entitled to our views and favourites and I am more than happy to read differing opinions, so please feel free (and likewise anyone else reading this)
Best wishes,

Dear Lee Denham,
I really appreciate your Mahler 1 survey, and I concur with you in large part.
Thank you!
TL
Readers may like to know that the 2020 Mahler Symphony 1 Conspectus has been revised and updated, taking onboard some of the feedback from yourselves (see: http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2022/Feb/Mahler-sy1-survey-LD.pdf ).
In particular, there is now an Index to the reviews, which is useful insofar we now know there is 227 recordings considered (up some 25 since 2020) plus hopefully the whole thing will be more easily navigable for you all now.
It was decided not to include an annotation regarding those recordings which use the whole of the Double Bass section, rather than just a soloist, in the Third Movement, as others pointed out then you may need to do the same for those recordings observing the first movement exposition repeat. In both cases, these details are mentioned in the reviews anyway.
As always, any recordings missing, plus general feedback is always very welcome. A similar survey on the Seventh should be published in due course, plus Symphonies 2 and 3 are in progress. Please don't forget that my distinguished MWI colleague, the late and much missed Brian Wilson, also produced his own work on the Fourth Symphony last year too.
With best regards,
lee
