My Tuesday Thankfuls

My son and DIL made it home safely about 1:00 A.M. this morning. This is a shortened version of a long story. They were requested to join the company he works for somewhere in South Florida for a Christmas party that lasted less than 3 hours yesterday. They always bring all the scattered employees and their spouses in at Christmas. Usually, the only time corporate sees them is other than Zoom meetings, so they really frown on missing it. They also pay for airfare, car rental, and hotel costs. It is usually an hour and a half direct flight. Unfortunately, that flight got delayed over and over for several hours, and then was cancelled. There was only one flight left for the day, and it had a layover in Atlanta. Then, because of heavy fog, the Atlanta connection couldn't go for hours. Finally, after 15 hours in airports, they got to their destination after 5 a.m. to find the car rental place had closed at midnight because no flights were coming in because of storms, so they couldn't get the car they had rented. They finally found a rental company open that only had one truck. They rented it and were able to check into the hotel for a few hours' rest. The same thing happened on the way back, but it only took them 9.5 hours to get back on an hour-and-a-half flight that also sat on the tarmac for hours, then was cancelled, and caused them to have to divert through Atlanta again and miss the last flight of the night, had to get a ticket on another airline that had two seats. It was then also delayed for several hours until after midnight. For a party that lasted less than 3 hours, they spent 24.5 hours in airports and almost 2 hours in the air, and only 4.5 hours in a hotel room before checkout time. Good thing that he got a good bonus to help his feelings over that party. My oldest grandson called me yesterday and emailed me the budget he had made. He had a few gaps in it that I helped him correct. He is making good money, but they were beginning to dig themselves into debt and didn't know why. They finally said enough and started keeping up with things, now making a budget. I am proud of them and grateful that they are trying to take control of their spending. Youngest grandson has a Christmas choir tonight. We can't go, but I am glad that he made the decision to take choir again. He loved it all through Jr. High, but didn't think he had room in his schedule for it this year. He was kinda sad that he wouldn't be taking it. I guess when he messed his hand up and could be on the swim team and basketball team in the fall, he had room. Walk-in clinics that the insurance will pay for. Feeling like the sinus stuff is coming back. Went to get some more antibiotics today. Couldn't get in to see my doctor or his NP for two weeks. My insurance recently stopped paying for Urgent Care clinics and says that if I can't wait for a doctor that I can go to the ER. Unfortunately, if I am not admitted, then they won't pay anything toward the ER bill. It seems as if they are trying to get people to not be seen if they can't see their regular doctor, and they are so full these days that you could die before getting in. I am grateful that I got a new provider for next year and hope that they do better. My husband has had them for 3 years, and they haven't pulled the things my insurance did this year.
