I've always thought the filigree work on the set was particularly beautiful. What I would like to see happen is a brooch made using the opals and then incorporating some other stones into the the original settings. I do like Nellie's idea of using a border of diamonds and then perhaps suspending the additional two opals.

: Set as a brooch appeals to me.
: Tight border of rose cut diamonds? or some

: I join Bryce's opinion. The Andamooka opal
: necklace is large, but actually not really
: overwhelming. Quite wearable, with an
    : appropriate neckline.

: Of course, the main interest of this
: necklace is the whopper size of the central
: opal. So there would be no point to reset
: the necklace with a smaller opal, that would
: just ruin the interest of the jewel.

: I would be curious, though, to see the opal
: mounted differently, maybe as a large
: brooch, or as the centrepiece of a tiara.
: But if Queen Elizabeth II decides to wear
: again the necklace just as it is now, I am
    : OK with that!
